No Sleep

Despite my tiredness, I could not sleep
but turned and turned
wandered from room to room
drained of all energy
longing for sleep.
But ceaseless pacing
of the rooms of my mind
provided no rest.
At last in the early hours
I gave up and made toast
with a huge pot of tea.
Sat in the living room
soaking up its nourishment
and then full as a tick
I slept!
